What Men Want: African-American Men On Love, Dating, And Sex

Removing the myths we've all been led to believe make up Black men, is going to be the first step in having a real conversation over What Men Want. Black men are complex creatures that don't fit into any one box when it comes to love, dating, and having sex. In fact, studies have shown that Black men are often very thoughtful in their approach towards sex when first starting to date someone. The whole “hit it and quit it” mentality has become a thing of the past, and it can stay there.

In some recent surveys taken, more than half of the Black men surveyed are interested in marrying their current partners. This alone dictates that Black men may be looking for a lot more commitment than the public is led to believe through pop culture. When Black women were surveyed, they only came out around ten percent higher when looking for committed relationships. This shows that both sides of the coin are mainly looking for real relationships with one another.

When talked to about the status of their ongoing relationships, over sixty percent of Black men claimed that their sex lives were excellent with their partners, and that no one was cheating in their relationships. All positive markers for any ladies out there looking to find a committed and faithful partner.

Where Are The Spots Black Men Go To Find Partners?

Meeting in person is still number one on the Black man's agenda for meeting partners, according to recent numbers. Through polling it's been proven that almost twenty-five percent of Black men like to meet new possible mates through their friend network. This acts as a sort of vetting process, because the person has already met with the approval of their friends, so dating them won't be filled with any awkward introductions.

Outside of friend groups, Black men tended towards finding possible partners at social clubs, bars, work, through family member introductions, and school. Many of them claiming to be very optimistic about their ability to find a partner. Majority of the Black men polled were in high favor of finding a spouse, with a much lower percentage claiming to never want to marry.

Dating Across The Racial-Divide

When polled, the majority of Black men don't seem to mind about dating across the racial-divide. It's a fairly accepted possibility at this point, which means that Black men are open to finding love and commitment with many different ethnicities. There are a number of films that have dealt with the tropes of interracial dating, some with humor, and some with stony seriousness, but at the end of the day the Black men have spoken, and they don't really mind bridging that gap.

LGBTQ And The Black Male Point Of View

Black men have had a rather notorious relationship, at least in public perspective, with the LGBTQ community. The good news about this, is that that relationship is becoming a thing of the past with the newer generations coming up. The idea that being gay makes you anything less has been fading with the latest generations, and that's a truly positive evolution of opinion. The lower the income, the more conservative the ideas towards LGBTQ relationships seem to get, but the Millennial generation has been changing even that as time moves forward.

Here's to a more evolved state of consciousness towards Black men and the relationship commitments they're capable of, and to an enlightened view of the LGBTQ.
